Uche Ignites Dominant Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite entering their first-ever continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a comfortable result that virtually guarantees them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Another victory in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, especially following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Grasp the Moment
This occasion provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe players to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second game in succession.
A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season were no match against a largely second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were already depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A slick move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.
The formerArsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's shot had struck the post.
Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
