The exciting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
